An encounter built for 5e inspired by the scene when Jinwoo and the others in his party explore the room full of Statues and encounter the "Statue of God". This is version 1 of the document with an update to follow next month of more detail. This encounter is expected for a group of Level 8-12 Adventurers and it is intended to be a challenge that isn't "Beaten" but survived, if you have seen the show/read the ManHwa.

I did a test run of this with some players from a dnd discord server im in. a few of them seemed to enjoy it well enough and didnt really have any notes but one had some feedback:

"I personally really detest 'guess what the DM is thinking' puzzles just in general. At best they’re confusing but entertaining and at worst they’re very frustrating, and having the NPCs trigger the traps to show the players what not to do is kind of a crutch to prop up a fundamentally flawed premise"

  1. "Instructions on the tablet need to be more explicit - something like “bow down to god” in lieu of “revere god” for example"
  2. "and it needs to be clearer that each rule indicates a stage - for example having some sort of indication that we’ve moved on from rule one to two or two to three. As written it’s not clear they don’t just need to be followed simultaneously (edited)"
  3. "but my actual advice is to rethink the puzzle from the beginning. As written it is very inflexible to player decisions and really only has one way to be solved which is always a problem, as unless the players have exactly the same thought process as you do they may never figure it out"
  4. "if you want it to just have the one solution, make it clearer what should happen if the players take the thing on in combat to brute force the puzzle" (I didn't do a great job of showing the statue as invincible via npcs/insight checks)

hope at least some of that helps!

also the 3rd commandment seems a little too easy, i did a bad job of conveying to my players that it was time to escape so they only started when they had 1 turn left and still managed it. They started trying to get all of the golems into the red and blue rings, the rings seem like a good idea but they kind of added to the confusion a little. haven't heard the podcast this was based on maybe I just have contrarion players lol
